My Boys Bedrooms
As mothers we tend to be anal about our children's room. We would like for it to pass the white glove test at a moments notice. Everything should be situated in its place and it should always be neat and tidy with no foul odors permeating the air, right? HELLO! Earth to Amie! Quit dreaming! Come back to reality!
Well, reality reached up and slapped me in the face this morning as I was vacuuming Jax's room. No matter how clean and clutter free I would like their rooms to be, the fact of the matter is this small space called a bedroom is their domain. It is their little piece of the world that they can control when their current world is dictated by adults. There may be a piece of week old pizza on a plate growing mold, dirty clothes strung all over the floor or stinky sports gear they refuse to wash because it's bad luck BUT it's their very own happy place and who am I to say, "how the hell can you stand that awful stench?' when they are in fact totally oblivious to the smell because their noses are immune. P&G sure knew what they were doing when they created Febreze. Teenage boy's minds are nothing but jello, cluttered with a ZILLION thoughts so why would we expect their rooms to be any different?
In actuality their room defines who they are. You can see their individual personality take shape thru the colors they choose and the different items that they display. Why would I want to squelch all the creativity and planning that goes into making it unique. Someday that childhood room will once again belong to me and I will be able to do with it as I please but in the mean time I will bite my tongue and ask that they at least dust and vacuum it once a year.
Side note: you can tell just how different my boys are by their rooms.

It's so true--you have to let them be themselves!
ReplyDeleteWell, well, well! What a nice surprise to see a comment from you lol. Did you start you own blog?
DeleteNo, thought about it until I received my class load! Maybe after I figure out that....but we will see!
Deletetotally agree!!!! our house is a reflection of who we are as women....their bedrooms do the same for them. and i don't care how much vacuuming, dusting or power washing a person does, a BOYS' room will always smell like foot and ass!!!!
ReplyDeletei know that the last time i was there, jaxson was hanging his jerseys on his wall and was very proud and wanted mike to see it :) i thought it was so cute
Could you imagine the money we would make if "feet&ass" smelled good or if we could create some type of natural, green energy that we could bottle up and sell.
