LIFE SKILLS AND TURTLES

God knows I have spent plenty of time complaining about Jax's pet turtle, Kylie.  I told myself and the "boys" along time ago that I did not need one more thing that needed me and that they would have to be in charge of taking care of her.  Needless to say my words fell on deaf ears.  Gee, imagine that!

When I nag or threaten to sell her, Jax or Mike will eventually throw her a tomato to munch on and if she is really lucky they will change her water but as frustrating as it is sometimes, I have grown quite fond of this little creature and all that she stands for.  A couple of years ago I had to make a decision whether to save her life or let her die.  I'm not gonna lie.....I wrestled with the thought of should I let her slip into turtle eternity or let her live to be a thorn in my side for another who knows how many years.  Of course, I chose the latter and I have to admit there is a lot we can learn from this reptilian species.

I was extremely happy to find this turtle statue because it serves as a constant reminder of those turtle like characteristic's that we should strive to possess.

Wisdom, Order, Patience, Strength, Stability, Longevity, Innocence, Endurance and Protection

  1. Awe Amie!!! I just love the story you told me about the turtle! You are a reptilian rescuer at it's finest. I think it is a beautiful garden turtle addition that really signifies all the things you listed. I like to think that a turtle can represent how we should be as humans in that we have a strong outer shell to repel the shit coming at us, a thick skin to laugh at ourselves, and a soft inside to feel love. :)

  2. Be honest....you got the turtle statue to remind yourself every couple days when you walk past it to go back inside and feed the neglected turtle pet.....but all that other stuff sounded real good. And Jolie's comment was the icing on the cake.

In all seriousness-it really is nice :)
