Texas, Irish Pubs and the Alamo

Since we had to postpone our trip to Ireland we decided we needed to patronize as many Irish pubs on the River Walk as possible.  Waxy's was a pub that was actually assembled in Ireland then shipped to San Antonio.

Then there was Durty Nellys!

We feel in love with this quaint little pub.  We spent two nights there drinking and singing along with the  piano player whom I am sure was glad to see us go!  Arfs, Guinness and Irish Car Bombs were plentiful.

The night we went to Pat O'Brien's I forgot my camera but I wanted to show my matching set of glasses that Mark, Berna and Mike five-fingered discounted.  However, I was a bit confused by this Irish bar because they didn't seem to know whether they were Irish or Cajun so I just rolled with it and enjoyed me some gator bites.

Before we left GJ Mike researched things to do on the River Walk.  It just so happened that they were doing the "Taste of the River" while we were there.  It ran for 3 nights and each night 12 restaurants participated in the event.  You paid $25 per person and you got to sample their featured item for the evening.  Here's where it gets interesting.........this particular event is sponsored by Dos Equis and I vowed by the end of the night that the "Most Interesting Man in the World" would becoming home with me.  Make no mistake this man is like a "god" to these people.  He is highly revered and worshiped in the state of Texas.

Each of the 12 restaurants had a life size "MIMIW" that graced the entrance to the tasting area so if you do the math correctly I had 12 chances of making this man mine.  My first attempt was foiled by an elderly lady who had already staked her claim and was not about to let him out of her sight.  I thought about taking granny down but decided to have a drink instead and plot my next move.

Our tenth stop was at a bar called "Howl at the Moon".  Sure enough there he was in all of his glory, smiling at me, begging to be taken. I swept him into my arms and headed for the exit.  Even some of the spectators witnessing my thievery tried acting as a human shields but the young lady checking the wrist bands caught me red handed.  I apologized profusely then headed upstairs for a shot.

After our taste testing adventure we returned to "Howl at the Moon" and proceeded to get extremely happy!  As we were leaving I asked the young lady if "my man" was still downstairs waiting for me.  She smiled and said nothing. Much to my surprise he was still there.  This time Berna worked her drunk, Latino magic distracting the door guy while I once again shoved Mr. Dos Equis behind my back, inched my way to the door and then ran like hell!!!!  I was trying hard not to pee my pants as I was sprinting down the sidewalk. Women my age should not steal let alone sprint!!   I was not about to look back!  I could hear Michael laughing and I could sense he was not far behind.  We eventually stopped to catch our breath; giggling our asses off at what just took place.  Mark and Berna soon caught up and we strolled back to our hotel celebrating our victory!

Mark finally getting his threesome.  Unfortunately these guys were glued to the floor
You can't see it in this picture but off to the right is a Dos Equis beergarita shrine.  Like I said, they go crazy for Mr. Dos Equis.

It is amazing how small the Alamo actually is.  I must have never truly payed attention in history class because I didn't realize that the Alamo was a Montessori.  Hell,  I thought Davey Crockett and his men built it as a fort.  Eh!  What do I know!

I couldn't resist taking a picture of the papaya tree.  Me being so knowledgeable and all, thought they only grew in South America.

Two Gringo's go to Texas and come back Mexican!
